Easter Recipe of the Month

Spicy Falafel Easter Scotch Eggs

Try something a little different this Easter with these delicious falafel eggs.  You can make them from scratch (lots of tasks for little helpers!) or shop bought falafel mix works just as well.  If you fancy a little more spice, add a pinch or two of cayenne or chilli powder to the mix.  A great lunch dish served with a green salad or zoosh up a coleslaw by adding red onion, grated cheese and a tasty dressing of mayo, mustard and a squeeze of lemon or lime!

Back to basics home cooking & kitchen gardening classes for ages 8-80

The Cook & Grow Project teaches back to basics home cooking and basic vegetable garden skills for ages 8 to 80 years. We aim to reinvigorate a love of both home cooking and home vegetable gardens. These skills are easy to learn in a nurturing and friendly environment, producing healthier more cost effective meals, through our no-fuss, no-frills, hands on teaching methods.

To quote the late Anthony Bourdain, “Basic cooking skills are a virtue… the ability to feed yourself and a few others with proficiency should be taught to every young man and woman as a fundamental skill. [It’s] as vital to growing up as learning to wipe one’s own bum, cross the street by oneself, or be trusted with money.”

We've lost 2-3 generations of home cooks and gardeners, the world over, and it's time to bring them back, starting as young as we can.

Classes in Hawke's Bay

It is with a heavy heart that I announce there will no longer be Cook & Grow classes held in the Hawke's Bay.  Due to circumstances unforeseen, I have had to move to Auckland for family reasons and have decided to relocate here permanently.

I have had the most wonderful time sharing the kitchen with such an amazing group of young Hawke's Bay people.  Each and everyone of you has bought something very special to my world.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the whanau, caregivers and helpers who supported this venture over the past few years.

I hope to restart the project again here in Auckland when life becomes a little more settled again.

In the meantime I plan to focus on the website over the next few months to bring that back to life again and post recipes on line. I'd love you to send me pics and videos of your young chefs with any new dishes they are making.
